We love microneedling! Why do we love it? Because microneedling produces results. And also because it is in-line with the principles of naturopathic medicine in San Diego in that it is utilizing the body’s own powerful ability to heal, regenerate, and build healthy cells and tissues. Beyond all of the other conditions treated by naturopathic doctors in San Diego that involve the inner terrain, we also believe that feeling our best from the inside OUT provides for optimal wellness. So the outward appearance absolutely counts! When we look our best, we often feel our best.
On it’s own, microneedling introduces tiny microchannels and localized micro-trauma to the treatment area. This microtrauma kickstarts the body’s inflammatory and healing response pathways to bring in certain chemicals that rebuild tissue and REBUILD COLLAGEN, and that’s where the magic happens. This is why microneedling in San Diego is known medically as “collagen-induction therapy”…. because, quite literally, we cause the new production of that miraculous plumping and elastic substance called collagen. It is the collagen that brings forth all of the anti-aging microneedling benefits that we need to either halt the clock or turn it back…. we believe aging in reverse is absolutely possible!
Now, adding Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to a microneedling treatment works to augment the results of this treatment by providing additional bio-chemical tools that amplify the rebuilding and healing process. PRP is extracted from the patient’s own blood. It is the growth factor-rich portion of the blood serum… and these growth factors are then delivered through the microchannels created by microneedling, into the dermis and subdermis where the deep skin healing and rejuvenation can occur.
Some of our patients are already familiar with what microneedling is (thank you Kim K. for introducing it to the world!). But most are not aware of all of the benefits of and conditions that can be treated with microneedling and PRP application. This treatment works to not only build collagen it can also break up and release old scar tissue, resurface and retexturize the epidermis (that outermost layer of skin), induce new hair growth where we want it (for hairline restoration), AND it can induce the contracting or tightening of the skin (ex: reduce that little bit of extra skin under the chin).

Yes, it is safe for thin and delicate skin types. And unlike some of the other resurfacing/aesthetic procedures, such as laser therapies, microneedling is considered safe for darker skin tones.
